High-performance refractory material solutions for RH furnaces

The full name of the RH furnace is the RH vacuum circulating degassing refining furnace.

The RH system equipment is a secondary refining device used to produce high-quality steel. The entire metallurgical reaction of the molten steel takes place in a refractory-lined vacuum ladle. The lower part of the vacuum ladle consists of two refractory-lined immersion tubes, and the upper part is equipped with a hot-bending tube. The extracted gas is discharged outside the plant via a gas cooler from the hot-bending tube to the vacuum pump system.

Before steel treatment, the immersion tubes are immersed in the molten steel to be treated. When the vacuum ladle is evacuated, the atmospheric pressure on the surface of the molten steel forces it to flow from the immersion tubes into the vacuum ladle (when the vacuum ladle is approximately 0.67 mbar, the molten steel height can be increased by 1.48 m). There are two immersion tubes connected to the vacuum ladle: an ascender tube and a descender tube. Because the ascender tube continuously blows argon into the molten steel, a higher static pressure difference is generated relative to the descender tube, which does not blow argon, causing the molten steel to enter from the ascender tube, flow through the lower part of the vacuum ladle to the descender tube, and so on. Under vacuum conditions, during the steel circulation process, gases such as argon, hydrogen, and carbon monoxide flowing through the vacuum channel are extracted. Simultaneously, the molten steel entering the vacuum ladle undergoes a series of metallurgical reactions, including a carbon-oxygen reaction, purifying the steel through circulating degassing and refining.

RH furnaces offer significant advantages in processing molten steel: alloys do not react with the slag, allowing for direct addition to the molten steel, resulting in a high yield; the molten steel can be mixed quickly and uniformly; the alloy composition can be controlled within a narrow range; the gas content is low, inclusions are few, and the molten steel has high purity; the top lance can also be used to regulate the chemical heating temperature, providing multi-heat continuous casting with high-fluidity, high-purity molten steel that meets the pouring temperature requirements.
