Silica Brick

Description

Silica bricks are acidic refractory materials mainly composed of tridymite, cristobalite, and a small amount of residual quartz and glass phase. After mixing, molding, drying, they are baked in a kiln at 1400-1430℃.

Silica bricks are acidic refractory materials with a silica content of more than 94% and a true density of 2.38g/cm3. They have resistance to acidic slag erosion, high high-temperature strength, and a load softening start temperature of 1620-1670℃. They will not deform after long-term use at high temperatures. There is generally no crystal transformation above 600℃. Small temperature expansion coefficient. High thermal shock resistance.

Silica bricks are mainly used in the partition walls of the carbonization chamber and combustion chamber of the coke oven, the heat storage chamber and slag chamber of the steelmaking open hearth, the soaking furnace, the glass melting furnace and the ceramic firing kiln. They are also used in the high-temperature load-bearing parts of the hot blast furnace and the top of the acid open hearth.

Silica bricks for hot blast furnaces have the following characteristics

  1.  Under long-term high temperature and load conditions, the volume is stable and the high-temperature creep rate is low, and it can be used continuously for one or even two blast furnaces;
  2. It has good thermal shock resistance above 600℃. It adapts to the variability of hot blast furnace temperature and keeps bricks and masonry intact;
  3. It has better chemical corrosion resistance than clay bricks and general high-alumina bricks. The erosion of silica bricks by alkaline substances in coal gas and smoke is limited to forming a layer of glass phase on the surface, and no peeling occurs;
  4. The thermal conductivity of silica bricks is greater than that of clay bricks and high-alumina bricks, which is conducive to storing and releasing heat in a shorter time.
